Janet Damita Jo Jackson is the youngest of nine children born to Joe Jackson and wife Katherine. She was born on May 16, 1966 in Gary, Indiana. About two years after her birth, her brothers signed a contract with Motown records and formed the band called “The Jackson 5”. Her first stage appearance was in April 1974 with her brother Randy in the Jackson Family’s Las Vegas act.
Her first television appearance was in 1976 when she co-starred with the rest of his brothers in “The Jacksons”. Janet was living in the shadow of her popular brothers but later also made a name for herself. It started when her performance earn the attention of a producer who gave her the part of Penny Gordon on the TV comedy series “Good Times”.
With the help of his superstar brother Michael, her debut self-titled album was released in 1982. Janet Jackson recorded her first major success in 1986 which carries the single “What Have You Done For Me Lately” that was nominated for three Grammy Awards and nine American Music Awards. She continued her singing and acting career and continuously making successful albums.
Although in the past years, the singer song writer has been quiet even including her marriage to Qatari billionaire Wissam Al Mana in December 2012. It was said that the wedding was a “quiet, private and beautiful celebration”.
This year, Janet Jackson promised to be back in the spotlight. She just announced her world tour which will begin in August. She also distinctively announced a day before her birthday the possibility of a comeback “new music, a new world tour, a new movement” via shared video. The American recording artist and actress announced that the new album (still untitled) will be released in autumn of this year. Meanwhile, Jackson is busy promoting her “Unbreakable World Tour” and even posted the dates of her concerts on her website janetjackson.com. This will be her first tour concert again after almost four years. The first tour will start on the 31st of August in Vancouver, Canada ending up in Honolulu, Hawaii in November.
