Boyz II Men: Transcending Time through Lyrics and Sound

BoyzIIMen

Founded during the 90’s, Boyz II Men remains to be one of the most remembered soulful R&B band due to their straight forward, heart melting ballads that became all time classics.

Started as quartet composed of Michael McCary, Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris, the group started gaining attention when their first track was released called ‘Mowtownphilly’produced by Mowtown Records. However, their international career jumpstarted when they gave life to Babyface’s composition “End of the Road”’ for a film entitled Boomerang starring Eddie Murphy back in 1992. This became a 13-week hit outdoing the then 11-week record under Elvis Presley’s belt. This didn’t stopped the group as they set another record of staying on chart for 14 weeks with their song “I’ll Make Love To You.” The group continued owning the top chart when On Bended Knee graced the airwaves.

The success went on after the golden boys of R&B made a collaboration with the only Mariah Carey with the song named One Sweet Day. It’s no surprise that combining these great singers will result to a sure fire hit that stayed 16 weeks on top of the charts. At the 37th Grammy Awards, as what was concluded by their early hit songs, the band bagged Best R&B Album and Best Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

Though no longer active on mainstream, the group still does tours showcasing their new songs along with their well-loved classics. According to their website www.boziimen, the band can be seen perform at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas.

As their songs continued to make love with the ears of their listeners of different walks and strokes, definitely, the group will never run dry on the hearts of the people who continue to appreciate their heartfelt music and exceptional vocal groove.

Aerosmith and Their Jaded Way to Stardom

aerosmith

Aerosmith were one of the most widespread hard rock bands of the ’70s, setting the panache and sound of hard rock and heavy metal for the next two decades with their vulgar, bluesy bluster. The Boston-based quintet found the middle ground between the threat of the Rolling Stones and the campy, crooked flamboyance of the New York Dolls, developing a slender, dirty riff-oriented jive that was slack and swinging and as tough as a diamond.

In the meantime, they established an archetype for power songs with “Dream On,” a keyboard ballad that was scored with strings and slanted guitars. Aerosmith’s aptitude to pull off both ballads and rock & roll made them tremendously popular during the mid-’70s, when they had a string of gold and platinum albums. By the early ’80s, the group’s listeners had deteriorated as the group fell prey to drug and alcohol abuse. However, their career was far from over — in the late ’80s, Aerosmith pulled off one of the most remarkable comebacks in rock history, returning to the top of the charts with a group of albums that equated, if not exceeded, the admiration of their ’70s albums.

After singing in clubs in the Massachusetts and New York areas for two years, the group landed a record contract with Columbia Records in 1972. Aerosmith’s self-titled debut album was released in the fall of 1973, climbing to number 166. “Dream On” was released as the first single and it was a minor hit, reaching number 59. For the next year, the band built a fan base by touring America, supporting groups as diverse as the Kinks, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Sha Na Na, and Mott the Hoople.

The performance of Get Your Wings (1974), the group’s second album and the first produced by Jack Douglas, benefited from their constant touring, spending a total of 86 weeks on the chart.

While Aerosmith was at the stature of their invigorated reputation in the early ’90s, the group signed a profitable multi-million dollar contract with Columbia Records, even though they still owed Geffen two albums. It wasn’t until 1995 that the band was able to begin working on their first record under the new contract — nearly five years after the contract was signed. The making of Aerosmith albums usually had been problematic affairs, but the recording of Nine Lives was beleaguered with bad luck.

Under such circumstances, recording became quite difficult, and when Nine Lives finally appeared in the spring of 1997, it was greeted with great anticipation, yet the initial reviews were mixed and even though album debuted at number one, it quickly fell down the charts. The live A Little South of Sanity followed in 1998. Three years later, Aerosmith strutted their stuff on the Super Bowl halftime special on CBS with the likes of Mary J. Blige, Nelly, *NSYNC, and Britney Spears, just prior to dispensing their heart-stomping Just Push Play in March 2001. Next up for the band was a blues album, Honkin’ on Bobo, released in 2004, along with two live album/DVDs, You Gotta Move and Rockin’ the Joint. Another greatest-hits collection, Devil’s got a New Disguise: The Very Best of Aerosmith arrived in 2006.

Before Tyler embarked on solo projects, he returned to the band for a series of concerts in 2010, in the middle of which it was proclaimed that the singer would be a new judge on the televised singing competition American Idol. Perry voiced his disappointment in the press but Tyler’s time on American Idol helped raise the band’s profile, while providing a platform for Tyler’s memoir, Does the Noise in My Head Bother You? The book performed better than his two solo singles — 2010’s “Love Lives” and 2011’s “(It) Feels So Good” — singles that did not wind up signaling his departure from Aerosmith. Tyler continued to tour with the band and in 2011 they recorded a new album with producer Jack Douglas, the man who helmed their classic ’70s LPs. Originally scheduled for release in summer of 2012, Music from Another Dimension! wound up being pushed back to that year’s holiday season, by which time Tyler had departed his judgeship on American Idol.

Stand by Me: Digging The Oldies Part 3

s-standbyme

Writing a part three of my “Digging the Oldies” series seems like too much. I thought so too; but after hearing two consecutive renditions of the classic “Stand by Me” by two notable – and my favorite – artists in just one month, I can’t help but finally give in to temptation.

The melody graced the stage again during the 2015 Billboard Music Awards when the band Imagine Dragons sang a heartfelt rendition of the song as attribute to Ben E. King, which made the crowd sway and sing to the gentle melody of this classic. It was a surprise when we hear it again the Salt Lake City arena. Ed Sheeran and Ben Kweller plucked away the guitar in their tour to give us another beautiful rendition of this song to sing along to.

“Stand by Me” was born out of inspiration from Psalms 46: 2-3 in which was a no surprise considering King’s religious background. The lyrics of the song were penned in an oak desk with Ben E. King and Jerry Leiber behind the desk holding the pens. On the other hand, it was Mike Stoller who developed the signature bass patterns using the piano in creating the harmonies.

Oh the other hand, amore different account was told in the documentary “History of Rock ‘n Roll” about the origin of the song. It was told that King has no intention of recording the song; yet after being heard by the producers when he played the piece on piano, studio musicians were readily called.

But no matter which accounts are correct, it definitely did not count as a factor for the commercial success of the song. It went No. 1 on the R&B Charts, re-released twice earning two hits in the US, and was used as the soundtrack for the !986 movie of the same title. After that, numerous covers appeared some are by the music icons such as John Lennon.

To date, there are around 400 recorded versions of the song, placed 122nd of Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time,” performed seven million times in the 20th century, and was announced to receive the 2012 Towering Song Award, which also honors King receiving the 2012 Towering Performance Award by the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.

Just recently this year, the original version was described as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” inducting it to the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress.

New Single “Beautiful To Me” Reveals another Side of the Essex Boy

olly murs

“Beautiful To Me” is Olly Murs’ fourth single from his UK chart topping studio album Never Been Better. And yes, he proves to us he’s never been better as he produced yet again another future smash in the form of t is new single.

Essex boy Olly Murs may have failed to bag the most coveted 1st prize of the popular talent show X Factor, but that doesn’t mean he’s doomed as just the next best. In fact, you wouldn’t know he’s just a runner up with his moves that could pick up the girls in an instant and can make the crowds go wild asking for more. With three out of four studio albums massive hits and four chart topping singles, no one would doubt the star. And now, he’s ready to seal his standing in the industry by producing “Beautiful To Me.”

Olly Murs is on a roll as he quenches the thirst of the crowd for smash singles as he release hits after hits, but with “Beautiful To Me” it was a different kind of void he would fill.

For all the pessimists about love out there, falling in love to this new single will not be a chore or a forced act for you. It feels like the single was designed specifically to tug at the heartstrings of whoever will listen. Olly Murs’ refreshing vocals will give you warmth and make you smile as you listen and take in the lyrics. What’s the best part is when he sings the chorus: “Love, don’t ever change the way you are/You light the sky just like a star/I don’t care what you say you’re/Beautiful to me, oh.” The transition from a fast-paced rhythm to a slower one as he bares his feelings to the girl is surefire to win the girl’s heart. One would not ask for more in this single.

Olly Murs has shown us a different side in this new single as he dropped the chappy-cheek persona to reveal a sliver of his raw feelings. The release date of the single in the US will be on the 15th of June. However for the Murs army out there, you can watch his live performance on his YouTube Vevo.

Little Mix Bewitching New Single: Black Magic

little mix

Here’s to why girls would love hearing this new single:

1.) This one’s a new summer anthem to crank up high in your road trips or beach outings.

2.) It’s another excuse to sing out loud and show-off your not-so-gorgeous singing voice and no one’s going to blame you – or tell you to shut your trap for the sake of all good.

3.) Last, but not the least, it offers you the perfect and no-sweat solution into getting your crushes fall for your charms – ahem, or lack thereof – with no chance of ever recovering. (Ah, just like every girl wish for.)

The new single was supposed to be released a little while later, but that later got sooner when it was premiered in the UK radio at the 19th of May, a week earlier, due to major leak problems: the title of the lead single was leaked, then some thought it wasn’t enough they leaked the cover too, then maybe they think to go all the way and leak the full single as well. We know it’s bad – and I want to punish the people behind the leak, too – but it was hard not to admit that we’re kind of happy for the early release of the Little Mix’s new single.

“Black Magic” of the British four-piece female band tastes like a sumptuous treat of your favorite dessert this summer. The track, inspired of the 80’s pop, is orgasmic to the ears with its naughty, naughty lyrics, decadent melody, and an over-all beguiling feel perfect for any situation where you want to toss your hair in the air and smile at that cute boy with the surf board.

Despite of a being the perfect girl anthem, everyone will admire the single. It is refreshing and is no doubt miles ahead from other aspiring summer anthems. The single will be released on July 10th, but is now available for pre-order in UK iTunes. So, yeah grab a hold of them now if you can and get ready to get bewitched by this new single: “Black Magic.”

The Hype in Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” Music Video

taylor_Swift_bad_Blood

If you think Taylor Swift’s break-up songs are the real deal breakers in her career, then you haven’t seen her single “Bad Blood” yet – although that’s kind of impossible.

“Bad Blood” from the album 1989 has been the series of speculations since its release – just like what you’d expect of Taylor Swift’s. Publications such as Billboard, Rolling Stone, Time, and The Washington Post point their finger to Katy Perry as the subject of the song, since the rumored attempted sabotage of the artist in one of Swift’s concert tour by hiring her back up dancers.

However, despite of the popularity of “Bad Blood,” it did not receive much of chart success compared to her other 1989 tracks like “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space.” On the other hand, it did not fail to earn Swift yet again another batch of compliments from its positive critical reception. Together with Kendrick Lamar, the collaboration is a powerful duo that brought out the best in the song.

If “Bad Blood” falls short off the mark compared to Taylor Swift’s famous single, then its music video brought it back up in the limelight of success. The music video has been causing the hype in social media even before its premiere, but that is to be expected when superstars are going to litter the 4-minute video. Directed by Joseph Kahn – the one who’s responsible for her 1989 “Blank Space” music video and Britney Spears’ iconic ones – the list of cast is sure to gain notoriety.

Comprised of stars like Selena Gomez, Hailee Steinfeld, Jessica Alba, Hayley Williams, Ellie Goulding, Lily Aldridge, Gigi Hadid, Lena Dunham, Zendaya, Ellen Pompeo, Mariska Hargitay, Cara Delevingne, Martha Hunt, and Cindy Crawford, they stormed the London scene in badass costumes with enormous explosion in the background to settle the score once and for all. (Taylor really shows here that she’s not someone to mess up with, either you’re a boy or a friend.)

This elaborate music video received numerous compliments such as a “futuristic neo-noir” by the Rolling Stone and the Time’s “most elaborate” music video of Taylor Swift. Inspirations from movies did not also hurt the success of the music video. The music video kicked Nick Minaj’s “Anaconda” as the most viewed for 24 hours after its release accumulating 20.1 million views.

“Ship To Wreck” by Florence + The Machine Takes Center Stage

Florence-and-The-Machine

Premiered last April 8 of 2015, “Ship To Wreck” by Florence + The Machine has by far sets Welch above of what she had previously become.

I don’t know about the other fans out there, but Florence Welch seemed to have poured out all of her soul in this single. There’s no holds barred in this one as she howls about how “Did I build this ship to wreck?”

The lyrics of the song touch up on her past struggles during one of her prominent times in the industry. It dug deeper into her inner demons compared to her lighthearted hit singles such as “Dog Days.” This single could serve as a mirror of her alcohol and love problem dredged-up past.

The subject of the single was even made prominent in the single’s music video, debuted last 13th of April, as it was shot in her home. The setting does not only give reflection of past hurdles, but of her emotions as well during those times, which was clearly presented in the chaotic scene and the single’s melody.

The melody helped further cement the significance of the song. It was a fusion of angry, commanding tunes riding through guitar riffs and delicate, haunting vocals only Welch could do. It has two contrasting feels ripped from both ends to meet in the middle creating one solid formula of one encompassing song.

Despite of the emotional and serious theme, it was a refreshing new song from Florence + The Machine. It was a masterpiece of raw emotions whilst preserving stark beats to move your hips with. It flies, and then glides, and fall, then soars again just like the singer of the song.

If this track in their third album “How Big, How Blue, how Beautiful” was anything to go by, then it you must put it in your list of the things to watch out for from Florence + The Machine.

Adorably Terrible Music Moments of Red Nose Day

Red-Nose-Day

“We believe in a just world free from poverty and use the power of entertainment to create positive change in the world.” – Red Nose Day

Red Nose Day goes to America this 2015 with a special segment aired last May 21st on NBC, to which it features hilarious skits and duets, and sing-alongs from the roll-call of celebrities.

This creative way of generating funds through comedy sketches did not fail to raise awareness – and money, too – amongst viewers and supporters. However, apart from this obvious gem, are the little music moments that you’d have a hard time denying to be one of those adorably terrible moments of your favorite music artists.

Aside from the epic fail Mission Impossible style entrance of Gwyneth Paltrow and the A-listers hilarious phone calls that is “supposed” to be promoting the cause is another show of funny moment by the Coldplay Chris Martin, as he try a musical of Games of Thrones – I can’t even imagine it! But it seems Chris Martin doesn’t have a hard time seeing the prospect as he embarks in writing the musical of the series; although it didn’t go well quite as planned, so who else rescues him in this predicament other than the casts themselves.

Kit Harington (John Snow), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) and more of the cast supports Chris Martin’s shenanigans and persuades the crowd to join in. (I wouldn’t look at Got the same way again.) Another performance was by U2 recorded during their tour innocence.

This is in no way will make you roll over laughing, instead this is one of the show’s moments where you’ll suddenly stop and remember that it is not the for the stars the event’s airing. U2 sang “Song for Someone” showing impoverished children in the background. Bono told the crowd, “Tonight, it’s a song for anyone who supports Red Nose Day, all across America.”

Another performance is the duet by Ed Sheeran and Kermit the Frog. We all know that Ed is already adorable from the start, but this duet just upped his adorable-ness into another level. The British singer slash songwriter promoted the cause through witty banter with his Muppet friend before they sang “Rainbow Connection.” At the last note, please do support the cause and donate.

Your Latest Pitch Perfect Last Song Syndrome

Pitch Perfect 2

Now that we have been enamored by the recently released movie Pitch Perfect 2, it is no wonder that many moviegoers and music fanatics have been humming the songs that accompanied the movie. Pitch Perfect 2 is a movie that has been awaited for by millions of fans from all over the globe, of all ages, of all genders. Because of the well-received first installment, producers never hesitated to release the second chapter of our loved Barden Bellas.

Tracks from the movie itself would surely be part of everyone’s last song syndrome and no one is actually complaining. Pitch Perfect 2 had released the movie’s soundtrack last May 12, 2015 under the enchanting powers of Mark Mothersbaugh for composition. With 18 tracks at hand, Pitch Perfect 2’s list had been greatly accepted by movie and music lovers alike.

Leading the pack of great songs is Jessie J’s Flashlight, which is now heralded as the movie’s official theme song. The Barden Bellas belted out some of the released songs which are Universal Fanfare, medleys like the ones sung on the Convention (Promises/Problem), Back to Basics (Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy/You Can’t Hurry Love/Lady Marmalade/MMMBop/My Lovin’), Cups, and the mixtape sung at the World Championship Finale 1 (My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark/All I Do is Win).

Seasoned Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine contributed through singing All of Me and We Belong with Rebel Wilson. The Trebelemakers, on the other hand, performed songs like Lollipop, Jump and longish medley, Riff Off. We can also see lead star Anna Kendrick give it a try with Snoop Dogg on the song Winter Wonderland and Here Comes the Santa Claus. Universal Fanfare was sung by Michael Higgins and Elizabeth Banks.

The other potential single here is the dance anthem “Crazy Youngsters,” performed by Ester Dean, best known for co-writing Nicki Minaj’s Super Bass and also part of the Pitch Perfect 2 cast.

“Youngsters” feels like it could have come from Lady Gaga’s Born This Way album, both in sound and theme, as Dean sings, “They call us crazy youngsters. We won’t apologize.” Das Sound Machine’s combination of Fall Out Boy’s “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark” and DJ Khaled’s All I Do Is Win is also quite inspired.

Currently, Pitch Perfect 2’s official album is at number 3 spot at the Australian Albums chart ARIA and at 10th spot at New Zealand lister Recorded Music NZ. Pitch Perfect 2 has received generally positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a rating of 69%, based on 137 reviews, with an average rating of 6.1/10.

The site’s critical consensus reads, “Pitch Perfect 2 sings in sweet comedic harmony, even if it doesn’t hit quite as many high notes as its predecessor.” On Metacritic, the film holds score of 63 out of 100, based on 39 critics, indicating “generally favorable reviews”.

Swift Victorious in Billboard Awards 2015

Taylor Swift

Even after they have been crowding the online world almost every single day in releasing the most loved and most famous hits, the chart-listing Billboard Top 100 still shocks the whole music scene by the yearly Billboard Music Awards. The team had the credibility to conduct this kind of awards night as their main aim is to put-up a list of songs that we have come to patronize no matter how new or veteran the artist or band is.

The Billboard Music Awards took over the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 17, carrying with it plenty of immense names, including Jennifer Lopez, who displayed lots of skin on the red carpet; Taylor Swift, who took home numerous awards; and Chrissy Teigen, who arrived with husband John Legend and hosted the show with Ludacris. Ed Sheeran sat in the audience with Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift while Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea took the stage to perform “Pretty Girls.” All the stars, winners, and performances made for some great moments and to be indelible on the music scene in general.

Of Royals and Tennis Courts, Meet Lorde

LORDE

We have seen it all. From the romantic balladeers, to the funky hip-hop groups, rappers of all colors here and there to the screeching sound of metal rock and percussions. We also witnessed artists that are easily classified as ‘different ‘from the mainstream musicians because of the approach and style that they use. We buy their albums, purchase them on iTunes and memorize the lyrics of their songs as if it was part of a chemistry exam that we need to pass. Over the last year, one artist had stood-out from the rest and is continuously making her name a staple to the worldwide music ensemble.

I know you choked on your burrito when you heard the name Lorde slowly making her way to the top of the music food chain. You think deeply and thought that this kid must be crazy but after the radio announcer had confirmed that she really is named as ‘Lorde’, you squinted and agreed that this is such a cool way to brand oneself.

Born in Takapuna and raised in Devonport, Auckland, Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor successfully penetrated the ever-so-tight international music scene with her first single, ‘Royals’.

With such a blossoming age of 18, Lorde had been considered as one prodigal kid as she unleash the power of singing and her creativity through song-writing. Mid-year 2013, Royals’ release had garnered worldwide media attention and went straight on top of the US Billboard Hot 100. Lorde had been a household name specifically to teenagers since they somehow felt a connection with the young singer because of age. Her popularity continuously spawns after the release of ‘Pure Heroine’, her first solo album. The album had been viewed as another quirky way of branding as the word ‘Heroine’ is somehow, syntax wise, connoted to the ‘heroin’, a party drug. Well, it clearly is a catchy way to garner market and generate the palpability of curiosity.

INFLUENCES

Lorde had been raised by parents who both are lovers of literature. In her early years, Lorde’s exposure to books and other literary stuff had paved and cemented her talent to write with sense. Her mother encouraged her to read as much books as she can. Quoting Lorde from an interview, “I guess my mum influenced my lyrical style by always buying me books. She’d give me a mixture of kid and adult books too; there weren’t really any books I wasn’t allowed to read. I remember reading Feed by M.T. Anderson when I was six, and her giving me Salinger and Carver at a young age, and Janet Frame really young too.

She cited Billie Holiday, Sam Cooke, the legendary Etta James and Otis Redding as some of her musical influences. Her parents really play a part of Lorde’s musicality as the records of Cat Stevens, Neil Young and Fleetwood Mac, all of which are her parents’ favorites, had been introduced to her as a kid. She also had a huge pull on rappers like J Cole and various electronic producers, stating that what impressed her on the aforementioned artists were their vocals being displayed in a very interesting way.

On the note of her skills in song writing, well-renowned authors as Wells Tower, Sylvia Plath, T.S. Eliott and Raymond Carver helped her immensely to develop her lyrical techniques and creative twists.

LORDE AND WHAT MAKES HER DIFFERENT?

Maybe the freshness that Lorde had put on the table is one of the many reasons why she was well-accepted by the general public. Her raw, yet not boring take on music had established her as one of the greatest artists of her generation. One thing that might also add up to the ‘wow’ factor that she possess is her age. Many would agree that there are many great artists her age but it is her talent in using adjectives and depictive phrases that sets her unique from the rest. Let’s face it, there are young singers too, but the question is, can they compose songs the same way Lorde did? The answer is a unanimous no.

Lorde’s chilling voice also adds spice to what she can offer vocally. Her simple attacks on high notes without really belting it out keeps us craving for more. You might even wonder if she can sing classic hits by Houston or Carey and you will answer your own wonder that no, Lorde is not a power diva and comparison is out of the question.

FUTURE PLANS

After bagging two of the most-coveted Grammy award for Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year for Royals last 2014, this prodigy is set out to keep her fame (which she really hate) ablaze on the following years. December of 2013, Lorde had announced that a second studio album is on the works which she clearly depicted as totally different from her debut.

After releasing Yellowflicker Beat for Hunger Games: Mockingjay I, Lorde is venturing on performing on music festivals like the ever-famous and raved Coachella for the years to come.

Yes Jess, we will do hold your hand

jess glynne

No one’s gonna see Jess Glynne fall on her new single, “Hold My Hand.”

Jessica Hannah Glynne or better known as Jess Glynne is a British singer-slash-songwriter famous for featuring in Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be” and Route 94’s“My Love.” However, after her first solo single “Right Here,” the songstress with the red hair is ready to hold up on her own, as her debut single scaled the top ten on international charts. Now she’s proving it again as she cemented yet another solo single, “Hold My Hand,” at the top of the charts for three weeks.

Jess’s “Hold My Hand” plays on dance/house genre with the edges straying to country music, but it is undeniable that this one’s another pop song. This track when weighed against her previous singles – collab or not – leans more on a buffed up pop song rather than let’s-go-dance tune of “Rather Be” and the likes. However, it doesn’t mean that you would be able to resist singing and swaying along – preferably with your hands up high – in this dazzling song.

The lyrics present a contrast in personality especially in the between the pre-chorus and chorus as she sings: “Break my bones but you won’t see me fall, oh/ The rising tide will rise against them all, oh.” Then on the chorus, she presents an opposite of what she’s saying – or singing – with the words: “Daring hold my hand/ Oh, won’t you hold my hand?/ ‘cause I don’t wanna walk on my own anymore.” It seems that Jess is all ready – for whatever it is – if they just hold her hand. (Don’t worry Jess, if they don’t we will do.)

The music video is basically a shot in the Californian desert during a sunset, while there are some riding dirt bikes and dancing. The meaning? Well just like most of the music videos, it’s a mystery.

“Hold My Hand” received commercial success debuting at no. 1 in UK singles Chart and scaling the US Billboard Hot Dance/ Electronic songs at 20th. Jess Glynne’s vocals is both honest and sire-like, so it is no wonder that after previous collaborations, she can make a name on her own.

Tonight Looks Good On You: Exploring Country Treasures Part 2

Jason Aldean

Candid and raw – this one’s gotta be on your playlist. As summer days are on the countdown to fall, be sure to hear this gem before the clear, night summer sky gives way to cloudy nights of June.

Jason Aldean, the man in the cowboy hats, was responsible for this intoxicating piece. “Tonight Looks Good on You” was written by Rhett Akins, Ashley Gorley, and Dallas Davidson and was released last 23rd of March 2015 in music download format under the label Broken Bow. With a bumpy – okay that’s a bit of an understatement. With a rocky, and I mean really big rocks, marriage and stories of unfaithfulness, you’ll wonder about how the American country music artist records his song.

Lyrically, the content of the song is not unfamiliar. It tells a story we heard a thousand times in the movies or in real life. To be blunt, telling or singing to a girl on how, to quote the song “There’s not a minute in a day/ That you don’t knock me out, you don’t blow me away” is one of the cliché-st line out there repeatedly rephrased by different artists –from the already famous ones to starting. And maybe that’s the right formula to a love song, as you can’t help but love it despite the rehash. Some of the key lines you’ll sing along as well were after the first verse, as he sings about the beauty the southern sky that goes perfectly with the beauty of his girl. Those lines are real smooth.

Describing the track, it’s beautiful. There is sincerity in the delivery made more prominent in Aldean’s deep, raw voice. This one will actually remind you as the in-between of “I’m Yours” of The Script and “Out of My League” of Stephen Speaks. This one’s more upbeat than “I’m Yours” as it has a faster tempo acting as the backbone of the song; however, it was much heavier than the breezy vocals in “Out of My League.”

“Tonight Looks Good On You” is a breather from the hype of summer days spent from rigorous activities. Play it whenever you feel like taking a breath of fresh air.

Runaway (U & I) by Galantis

galantis-runaway

If it’s your first time to hear it, chances are Runaway (U & I) will prove to you that something strange could also be beautiful and sweet.

Swedish electronic duo Galantis – comprised of Linus Eklöw, also known as Style of Eye, and Christian Karlsson, from the Swedish Band Miike Snow, – has released their single Runaway (U & I) last October 2014 which earns a reissue this May, as the track seems to be on its way to something big. This song was the follow-up of the single “You” in the Seafox Saga, wherein Galantis don in a mascot as she journeys in the Angel’s City of fame, amazingly popular yet totally alone.

Many has been storming the charts this recent years with a dance, electronic genre, but Galantis is one of the few to get wide recognition by the genre’s fans or even those who are not. The single follows a formula from keyboards to lyrics creating a solid style that is both simple and effective.

Runaway (U& I) tells a simple story of girl braving the city, achieving success but never love. Only she found it in a stroll down the night and –of course – they dance the night away singing “I wanna runaway / Anywhere out this place / I wanna runaway / Just U and I, I, I, I, I.”

Despite the simplicity, the single will command you to stand and fill the dance floor, completely surrendering to the melody and sweet, sweet strange vocals of Galantis.

Runaway (U & I) topped international charts including the US Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs. It got different renditions and remix from different artists. It went gold in the countries New Zealand and Australia.

After this single, “Runaway (U & I),” is another track entitled “Gold Dust” that is soon to come, so make sure to watch out.

Lean On by Major Lazer and DJ Snake ft. MØ

Lean On

Major Lazer first rattled the scene in 2009 and since then created a complete of two albums, six EPs, and multiple remixes. To date, the group – comprised of Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire – went on collaboration with French DJ and producer DJ Snake to finish the single “Lean On” with the featured vocals of Danish recording artist MØ (Karen Marie Ørsted).

The group is known for their Moombahton, trap, EDM, reggaeton, dancehall, and electropop genre; and this single is not any different. However, there’s minimal dancehall influences that is signature of Major Lazer and the melody is a bit toned down following a path that is reminiscent of MØ songs. Amidst the jam packed percussion, big beats, and thump- melody is MØ’s sultry voice that will make you “…focus!” even without her singing it.

Lyrically, the first verse tells us about a young love, like a stroll on the sidewalk – innocent. Putting in reality, the inevitable is soon to come and they know they would be breaking each other’s heart. And as MØ sings the chorus, “Blow a kiss, fire a gun,” it reminds us the metaphor of love and war; and between those two, “All we need is somebody to lean on.” And as the song passes the climax, there’s a transition in perspective as she sings “What will we do when we get old? / Will we walk down the same road?” This proposes juxtaposition in the previous verses – although this one’s layered with doubt and pessimism.

The music video premiered last March 23, 2015 featuring all artists that collaborated for this single. It was shot in India and Sweden with the artists dancing and swaying gently as opposed to their “usual’s”.

The track received commercial success both in international charts and radio airplays. It graced the charts usually at first to third places. It only placed 52nd on US Billboard Hot 100, but peaked at 4th in Us Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs.

Jump in to 5SOS Permanent Vacation

5 Seconds of Summer

Hey, if you ever find yourself already treading in the muddy water of dull, boring life; then 5 Seconds of Summer got a solution for you, as they sing their brand new song: Permanent Vacation.

It seems that the four boys know exactly what is it that we want for a dream life when they penned this song. We’ve all experience that “situation: no motivation” and that perfect solution, “destination: permanent vacation” – only it’s one of those wishful thinking. Kicking off in Lisbon, Portugal last May 4th for their first destination in their tour “Rock Out with Your Socks Out Tour,” 5SOS sung to their screaming fans their new single entitled “Permanent Vacation.”

The song opened up to Michael Clifford’s lead vocals singing about his heart breaking, all the while complaining on the how “9 to 5 is overrated”; to which Luke Hemmings delivered the perfect advice – maybe with a smirk on his face while doing so.

“Situation: no motivation/ Destination: permanent vacation.”

“Permanent Vacation” is their first released single for their second studio album, which no doubt you will also love among your other favorite 5SOS songs like “You’re So Perfect” and “Amnesia.” It plays along the genre of punk pop, punk rock that is actually reminiscent of Greenday singles, which has a big influence in the band. It is complete with shifting, rough guitar plays, punk-y lyrics and poppy hooks that will make you wanna jump on your feet, pump your fists in the air and jerk your head to the every beat of this hype-inducing single.

The song sounds like it’s telling us to be a rebel, while actually it’s just saying that “Hey I’m doing fine” even if what they do is refute the conventional by “staying out of line.”

5SOS next stop after Lisbon will be in Madrid, and then they will be tearing apart Europe, America, and Australia singing “Na Na Na Na Na Na.”

It’s Alright with Ella Eyre’s “Together”

Ella Eyre

She is the featured voice in Rudimental’s “Waiting All Night,” DJ Fresh’s “Gravity,” and of course, Sigma’s smash hit “Changing” that hit number one in the charts; and with her brand new single “Together,” the girl with the crazy hair is set to prove yet again that she is more than just the supporting act.

You may have known this girl with her fantastic performance in London’s historical venue, “Roundhouse,” or you may have also known her in as the opening act Olly Mur’s “Never Been Better” Arena Tour, who heated up the crowd for the main act.

It is another high possibility that you may have heard this girl as the featured vocals in the industry’s hottest names, which since then streamed through international charts. Nevertheless, despite breaking the surface of her musical affair into the limelight with famous collaborations as her crutch, Ella Eyre is more than ready to step up the stage and own the show.

“Together” is another track up on the British singer and songwriter debut studio album “Feline” that was set to be released via Virgin EMI Records on the 14th of August 2015 in digital format. The single, preceded by the lead track “If I Go” and the second “Comeback,” was released just the 17th of May 2015 and is said to be a surefire to line up the successes of her previous singles.

Well, after hearing the song, this one’s success will not be just a speculation. This one got the luster of international hits complete with dynamic drum-bass beats to make you dance, dance, dance and sing-along with her powerhouse vocals.

There’s an exhilarating ride in hearing the single; as it is not only packed with dynamic, addictive rhythm, but of telling lyrical content as well. The single starts with Ella’s soft, breathy vocals mostly dominating the slow, hard snaps of percussion, and then soaring into power as she sings about unity “You know that we are better off as two,” which signals the start of you jumping on your feet beneath the summer heat.

Losing into Ella Eyre’s addictive single is a summer agenda that can also be loaded up into your next season’s playlist.

Billboard Music Awards 2015 in a (BIG) Nutshell

ludacris-hosts-billboard-music-awards-bbmas-billboard

Billboard Music Awards or BBMA is more than a two-decade old ceremony amongst other prestigious awarding events given by the publication and popularity chart, Billboard. The honorary event was first awarded in 1989 of December and became a much-awaited and thoroughly-prepared phenomenon. However, it halted at the year 2007 and resumed only after four years. Since then in 2011, BBMA is held annually in May.

This 2015, Billboards Music Awards was held last 17th of May in MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas to give recognition yet again to artists, emerging or longstanding, who made an impression to public through outstanding performances introduced from debuting singles to nth time full length studio albums and everything in between and more.

Hosted by Ludacris and Chrissy Teigen, this year’s BBMA also features more explosive and diverse performances from the industry’s fresh meats to veterans of music who’s making reappearance in the scene. To mention some are Tori Kelly’s “Nobody Love,” which did not fail to win over the crowd.

Performances from rock stars also pounded the stage with Fall Out Boy’s “Uma Thurman” and Hoziers winning rock single “Take Me To Church.” Mariah Carey put on a show with her “Vision of Love” and “Infinity,” as well as Britney Spears together with Iggy Azalea as they performed “Pretty Girls.” Summing it up, the performances from Van Halen’s “Panama” to Kanye Wests closing performance “All Day” are all spectacles of what music industry has to offer and become.

Apart from the disarming performances are the notable happenings in the three-hour event.

Of course it all starts in the red carpet where artists like Taylor Swift flaunt their dress – or their skin, you choose – to clamoring fans and flashing lights. Candid engagements of artists around are also one of the must-sees of adoring fans in events such as this like Hozier and Ed Sheeran pal-ing before the event. It was also one of the first that the “one less” One Direction appears after Zayn Malik’s departure. And who will forget? It is also the premiere night of Taylor Swift’s star-studded music video “Bad Blood.” (Swifties, you can watch it in YouTube now!) On the last note, Chris Brown had acute moment with his daughter, Royalty, as he brought the little angel to be his date.

And unto the main event! Taylor Swift bagged eight awards after racking up 14 nominations. Her winning title includes Top artist, Top Female Artist, Top billboard 200 Artist, and Top Hot 100 Artist. Top New Artist and Top Male Artist are some of Sam Smith’s award who unfortunately was not able to attend the ceremony due to throat problems. Other artists who won the BBMA 2015 are One Direction, Meghan Trainor, John Legend, and Iggy Azalea.

Your Nineties Supernova Kylie Minogue

minoguemain

A real superstar must possess all the things that everyone is envious about — singing prowess, talent in acting, the effervescent charisma, the bodacious figure, the remarkable face, the not giving up attitude, the moves.

Many have tried but only so few had succeeded. And when you want to be tagged as a superstar, you must be present on every category that the industry has and be a name that everyone would remember.

Some excelled in the music industry but not as much had been victorious when they tested film and those who had been known through music had their roots first in acting. Nods of approval would surely be prevalent when the name Kylie Minogue had been tagged as a superstar, because she simply is a Jill of all trades.

Kylie Ann Minogue was born on 28 May, 1968. The eldest of three children, Kylie’s acting career began early, but it was her role as “Charlene” in the Australian soap, Neighbours (1985), which established Kylie as an international star. Her singing career began, purely by accident, when a record company executive heard Kylie’s rendition of Little Eva’s 1962 hit, “The Loco-Motion”.

She signed with PWL Records and hit-makers Stock/Aitken/Waterman in 1987. Five albums and a greatest hits compilation followed, and she made history by having more than 20 consecutive top ten hits in the UK.

Her motion picture debut came with the starring role of “Lola” in The Delinquents (1989). She left PWL Records in 1992 to head in a decidedly more mature musical direction, and her self-titled debut on deconstruction records was released in 1994, spawning chart hits like “Confide in Me” and “Put Yourself in My Place”. Kylie’s doings were always a favorite subject of the press, but she really made waves with her controversial 1995 duet with Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, “Where the Wild Roses Grow”.

Kylie Minogue had been prolific in both her acting career and as a singing sensation. Since she first swamped herself in the music industry, Minogue had been able release twelve studio albums which received a share of positive and so-so reviews from critics. Kylie’s first album, which is a self-titled one, was released in 1988 and “Kiss Me Once” was her last just on the market last 2014.

On her job as an actress, Kylie Minogue had been remembered as The Green Fairy in musical Moulin Rouge, as Eva Grace in Holy Motors, Dr. Petra von Kant in Bio-Dome, as the jumpy Cammy in Street Fighter and as Tara in Jack and Diane.

Minogue had been known as the diva of dance-oriented pop songs which kept us all at our feet whenever her songs are playing on the television or radio. Kylie, her debut album, had been noted for songs like Loco Motion which easily placed number three on the US Billboard Hot 100. The same album contained other singles as “Got to be Certain” and a mushy collaboration with Jason Donovan for Especially for You. Kylie Minogue’s first try in showcasing how talented a singer she is resulted for her debut album to be Gold in United States on its first few weeks.

With her immense talent and exposure to the film and music scene, Kylie had been recognized by numerous award-giving bodies. She dominated the Australian Recording Industry Association Awards (ARIA Awards) where she belted 16 wins and cemented her pedestal as a relevant musician. Her flawless beauty and philanthropy also merited Kylie Minogue accolades from Elle Style Awards and Glamour Awards. Her single Come Into My World from 2004 had given Minogue her first Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.

Kylie Minogue had been diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 36 last May 2005 which resulted to massive pull-out of tours, scheduled single releases and commitments. But on her guesting on the Ellen Show in 2008, Minogue dropped the news that her cancer diagnosis had been a mistake even after she underwent a couple of chemotherapies and a major surgery.
