Every year, music fanatics all over the world keep tuned and glued to their televisions to witness the annual Grammy Awards. Originally called as the Gramophone Awards, Grammy’s is a prestigious way of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to give praise to great contributors of the music industry over the past year.

Musicians and artists, old and rising, are being given equal attention by this award-giving body on their influence and commercial value tied up with the ingenious musicality being injected over a certain album, certain song or whatever it is that the artist had offered to the general public.

The most-awaited annual presentation features unforgettable performances from noted singers and bands and exposure of prominent figures not only in the music scene but for the whole mass media. Grammy Awards is the coveted accolade for music like how Tony Awards is for stage performance; Academy is for motion pictures and Emmy Awards for Television.

The recently concluded 57th Grammy Awards, which is held in the infamous Staples Center in Los Angeles, California caught everyone’s attention last February 8 with fast-rising star Sam Smith and band Beck leading the pack as for the Record of the Year and Album of the Year awardees.

A decade ago, the 47th Grammy Awards was held at the same venue on February 2005 with Hollywood actress Queen Latifah as the host. Now is the most appropriate time to re-celebrate the victories made that year as 2005 had been one of the most productive years in the 2000s era.

As what was expected, the 1995 Grammy Awards showcased bombastic production numbers from Jennifer Lopez, then-starting singer Norah Jones, pillars of music Bono and Stevie Wonder, hit-wonders Brian Wilson and Scott Weiland, respected singer-songwriter Alicia Keys and an indelible performance from band Slash who performed Across the Universe as a Beatles tribute.

One of the most noted performances though on this year’s awarding ceremony belong to the medley played by a mishmash of artists and groups like The Blackeyed Peas, Maroon 5, Eve, Gwen Stefani, Lonely Boys and Franz Ferdinand. Kanye West, 1995 Grammy’s’ most nominated artist displayed his musicality through performing a song entitled Jesus Walks which is rather one of his most unforgettable performances.

For the major category, a posthumous award was given to Ray Charles for the song Here We Go Again as the Record of the Year. This, he share with another brilliant big star, Norah Jones. The late Ray Charles also bagged the Album of the Year Award for Genius Loves Company, which he also shared with various artists.

John Mayer’s Daughters trumped Alicia Keys, Kanye West, country singer Tim McGraw and social-relevant band Hoobastank for Song of the Year. Alternatively, then starting band Maroon 5 bagged the Best New Artist Award after the success of debut song This Love.

Norah Jones’ second award for the 1995 Grammy’s came from her hit song Sunrise that’s given her the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance recognition. Pop diva Britney Spears also won that year for Toxic which earned her the Best Dance Recording award.

Bruce Springsteen and U2 led the rock genre for bagging the Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance (Code of Silence) and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal (Vertigo) respectively. The song Vertigo also harnessed U2 with their second Grammy for Best Rock Song.

R&B superstar Alicia Keys didn’t go home empty-handed as she won Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for If I Ain’t Got You sending equally relevant artists Janet Jackson, Angie Stone and Jill Stone to Lostville. Together with Usher, My Boo has given Alicia Keys another Grammy recognition for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

Singer slash rapper slash producer Jay-Z went home with Best Rap Solo Performance for 99 Problems. Usher and Ludacris won through the song Yeah! as Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Kanye West, amidst numerous nominations got Best Rap Song Award and Best Rap Album that night.
