Take Your Time: Exploring Country Treasures

Sam Hunt

Sam Hunt uses reverse psychology in his single “Take Your Time,” ‘cause certainly, it isn’t just time you’re going to surrender for this soulful song – it’s absolutely gonna be your heart as well.

I know, I know. Its summer and new season equals new look, new wardrobe, and most especially, new playlist. It’s supposed to be in with the new, and out with the old. So, what are we doing taking a detour at this not-so-new single? Oops! Before you click your mouse onto that back arrow, let this song take little bit of your time – probably not more than five minutes – and then you can move on to your next summer agenda. You’re not going to regret it – it’s a pinky promise.

It’s an A+ for all country music lovers – and maybe even to those who are not – as Sam Hunt sings to you this breathy single “Take Your Time.” He certainly knows how to use his strength in terms of crafting a song as he, in the words of Jon Freeman of Country Weekly, “confidently glides from his breathy speaking voice to his silky smooth, R&B-influenced vocal instrument.”

The vocals, in its stripped down form, will physically remind you of the days bundled up in silk sheets while warming up with your chocolate drink because the snow is high outside and the best thing you could do is enjoy that little moment of peace, because later the sun will shine and you’ll have to face the chaos outside.

“Take Your Time” music video is unexpectedly dark if you measure it up to its lyrics and tone, as it embark on issues about domestic violence. However, the cinematic gray scale approach has added to the allure of the song.

Released last November 24, 2014 – yes it’s kinda old – it debuted at the 55th place of Billboard Country Airplay and 35th place on Hot Country Songs. However, at February 21, 2015, it climbed at the top of the Hot Country Songs chart and bagged the 1st place. It also scaled the Hot 100 first at 93rd place then peaked at 20th on April 11, 2015. Finally, at April 14, 2015, it went Platinum and sold 944, 000 copies in the US at April 22, 2015.
