With everyone looking for the perfect song to add to their summer playlist, Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea went for collaboration and released a new single under the title “Pretty Girls.”
It was released May 4, 2015, a day earlier than planned date because of leaks, under the RCA Records. It was produced by the Invisible Men and co-written by the British Girl Group Little Mix.
It was Britney Spears’ first single for her 2015 album that’s slowly in the making. The catchy, energy-packed single received mostly positive reviews from the contemporary music critics.
Britney seemed to be totally enjoying her a little more than two-minute action. Billboard’s Jason Lipshutz commented that pop and pop-rap fan will have a field day at the release of this new, electro-hop single, as it has the potential to be a summer smash.
However, some parts are reminiscent of Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.” It leads to some critics’ comment about “Pretty Girls” as Fancy’s rehash or follow-out specifically by the New York’s Post, which describe the song as “a woefully formulaic rehash.” Fancy was also produced by the Anglo-American trio Invisible Men, which some pointed out as the reason for the similarities.
Despite Britney being the main component for this song, it will also have a big impact on Iggy’s career. After going home empty-handed from the Grammys and falling flat on her subsequent shows, this single will revive her and bring her back to the scene if it ever hit the top of Billboard Hot 100.
The single lacks commercial success as it only debuted at the 64th spot on IRMA on May 7, 2015, as there is shortage of promotions.
“Pretty Girls’” music video will premiere at May 11 and will be performed at the 2015 Billboards Music Awards at MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 17.
Given a chance, “Pretty Girls” deserve a spot in one’s summer playlist as it grows appeal after two or more replays on your iPods.
