Seat-Turning Voice of Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera

Thanks to Staten Island, New York, the world has come to know a brilliant artist named as Christina Aguilera. You might have known her as the arch-rival of Britney Spears as they technically rose to fame almost at the same time, or that beautiful, talented singer belting it out in Moulin Rouge’s Lady Marmalade. The sweet-faced Aguilera had been a staple in pop culture as she moved along age and her contribution to the diva industry of the music scene is sure a thing to remember.

Born Christina Maria Aguilera in December 18, 1980, her name had been one of the most notable singers of her generation through numerous, memorable song such as Genie in a Bottle, What a Girl Wants and Come On Over Baby. After singing Reflection on the animated movie Mulan in 1998, Christina had been signed up with RCA Records and the rest is basically history. In 1999, she had been branded as one of the fastest rising stars and she then released her first self-entitled album, Christina Aguilera.

Her first album had been an easy chart topper on US Billboard 200 and Canadian Album Charts. The success of Christina Aguilera had earned the singer an octuplet-platinum album by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) with a whopping eight million copies worldwide. Even though her debut album, people had come to realize Aguilera’s potential through belting and vocal prowess.

Her singles Genie in a Bottle and What a Girl Wants had been the best known singles of this self-entitled album which technically tackled teenage love and shenanigans of a young but growing girl. This very album also had merited Christina a Grammy award for Best New Artist on its 42nd fest.

Proving that she’s such a flexible artist, Aguilera followed her first album’s success with a Spanish-inspired material entitled Mi Reflejo. Reaching to a bigger audience, this album also garnered humongous success with a sextuple-platinum recognition by the RIAA. A third album had been immediately released which is entitled My Kind of Christmas which is also a certified platinum album.

A Latin Grammy Award had been added to this brilliant stars’ fame belt for Best Female Pop Vocal Album.

Despite her international success with first three studio albums, Aguilera was dissatisfied with the music and image her management Steve Kurtz had created for her, having been marketed as a bubblegum pop singer because of the genre’s upward financial trend. Aguilera’s views of Kurtz’s influence in matters of her creative direction, the role of being her exclusive personal manager, and over-scheduling had in part caused her to seek legal means of terminating their management contract. In October 2000, Aguilera filed a breach of fiduciary duty lawsuit against Kurtz for improper, undue and inappropriate influence over her professional activities, as well as fraud. After terminating Kurtz’s services, Irving Azoff was hired as her new manager.

When planning her fourth studio album, Aguilera leaned towards a new artistic direction that she felt had more musical depth. She named the album Stripped and explained that the album “is a new beginning, a re-introduction of [herself] as a new artist in a way”. Aguilera cultivated an increasingly provocative image while promoting the record, at which time she adopted the nickname “Xtina”, dyed her hair black, and debuted several tattoos and piercings.

Christina Aguilera described her fifth studio album, Back to Basics, as “a throwback to the 20s, 30s, and 40s-style jazz, blues, and feel-good soul music, but with a modern twist”. The double album was released in August 2006 and debuted atop the charts of thirteen countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Germany, Australia, Ireland, Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands. On the US Billboard 200, it opened at number one with first-week sales of 346,000 copies. It has sold 4.5 million units worldwide. The album’s lead single, Ain’t No Other Man reached number six in the Billboard Hot 100 and won her another Grammy award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Aguilera announced that her sixth studio album would be “a very futuristic approach to music”, drawing inspirations from electronic genres. The final product, Bionic, was released in June 2010. The release struggled to match the chart impact and sales of her previous albums, peaking at number three on the Billboard 200, and has sold 315,000 copies in the United States.

Christina Aguilera had also been prolific in making movies such as starring with Cher in the film Burlesque in November 2010. As like her singles, Burlesque also received accolades from the general public and received a couple of movie nominations such as Best Motion Picture for Musical or Comedy.

Currently, Christina Aguilera had two kids and engaged with Matthew Rutler and a judge-coach on United States-based talent show, The Voice.
