Grammy’s Legion of Dragons and Bunch of Booyahs

grammys

Lists are great and discouraging at the same time. When someone decided to do a top ten of everything fancy, we are on all eyes as we know who or what to follow for the time being.

But what if the list includes losers? Is it something that we would put interest on same as what we have given, say a list of winners?

Now, let’s find out who among well-known artists have almost snatched a Grammy but still not quite.
And let’s take a look also into the artists we idolize and how they are faring so far based on the last count.

MOST GRAMMY’S WON

Sir Georg Solti holds the record for the most Grammy awards won with a total of a whopping 31 wins. Solti is a Hungarian-British conductor who led the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for almost twenty-two years.

Trailing for the second spot are artists Quincy Jones and Allison Krauss (country singer responsible for the worldwide LSS of ‘Baby Now That I Found You’) with 27 phonograph trophies.

Pierre Boulez, a French composer, conductor and pianist is behind with 26 awards and Russian pianist Vladimir Samoylovich Horowitz got 25 wins.

Some notable artists such as U2 and Stevie Wonder (both won 22 Grammy’s), Kanye West and Jay-Z (21 awards and counting), Beyonce (now at 20 awards after recent win), Sir Paul McCartney, Aretha Franklin and classical singer Tony Bennett (all of them with 18 wins) made it to the top of the pack.

MOST WINS BY MALE AND FEMALE ARTISTS

The male category of who had the most wins is pale in comparison to the list made by the female version.

Most of the male artists who topped the list are composers, pianists and musicians, Solti still (obviously) holding the throne.

Some other artists who made it on this list are Ray Charles and Eric Clapton (both with 17) and Sting closing it 16 harnessed trophies.

While Krauss is on the lead being followed by Beyonce, it is interesting to know that Adele, Chaka Khan and Bonnie Raitt all tied up at 10 are singers who have gotten famous by songs about love and the passion behind loving.

Mary J Blige, Natalie Cole, Sheryl Crow and my ever favorite Norah Jones also made it with 9 awards apiece.

GROUP CATEGORY

With their songs tapping some socio-political issues, U2 topped the Groups List with 22 awards.

Trailing behind are Alison Krauss and Union Station, Dixie Chicks, Foo Fighters, Pat Metheny Group and The Manhattan Transfer with 14, 13, 11, 10 and 9 golden trophies respectively.

Closing this category are modern groups like The Blackeyed Peas, Outkast, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Daft Funk all tied up at 6 wins.

YOUNGESTS AND OLDESTS

Blank Space singer Taylor Swift is heralded as the youngest artist to win Album of the Year at the age of 20 for her album Fearless.

Alanis Morisette at 21, Barbra Streisand at 22, Lauryn Hill, Adele, Stevie Wonder and Norah Jones, all at 23 followed this amazing suit after victoriously trumping out other artists for the same category during their times.

Pinetop Perkins won his Grammy at the age of 97 for his album Joined at the Hip for Best Traditional Blues Album. Never say old to a man with dreams, uh?

MOST NOMINATIONS WITHOUT WINNING

Surprisingly, balladeer Brian McKnight is still not lucky enough to have bagged himself a Grammy after 16 nominations. This, he shared with famed rapper, Snoop Dogg.

Country artist Martina McBride also made it on this booyah list with 14 nominations without winning it.
Bjork and widely-renowned artist Katy Perry is yet to taste the victory of being a Grammy winner even after 13 nominations for different categories.

Legendary Diana Ross also is included with 12 nominations having Busta Rhymes on the same boat as hers.
