Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years” - The story behind

Christina-Perri

The singer-songwriter opened up about her biggest break- “A Thousand Years” that has become the sound track of the vampire-themed movie “Twilight”.

Christina Perri is also the singer-songwriter of the hit songs “Human” and “Jar of Hearts”. “A Thousand Years” is a romantic song that expresses fear of falling in love.

Perri confessed that she was asked to write a song for the wedding scene of Bella and Edward. While writing the song she imagined Bella and Edward walking down the aisle since she saw the whole movie before anyone else.

She actually wrote the song “a thousand years” for that wedding scene of the movie Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1 however it was never used in the movie.

The singer says that she was disappointed but felt lucky as well at the same time for at least having her song picked and put it in credits of the movie.

A year later, she got a phone call from the Head of Atlantic Records that the editors had used the song as a track for the film temporarily and they ask if she could use an extended version in the film.

She said in an interview made by MTV that she was surprised that the recording company wanted a new version of it and was really not expecting it.

For the song to fit the film, the singer made added pre-verse to make it special and new and even made it a duet with Steve Kazee, a Broadway star.

The song may not made it to the wedding scene of Twilight Part 1, but it connected with the fans more than the other singles from the soundtrack.

“I ended up getting the swan song of the whole thing because I think I was patient and gracious with them choosing it for a different song” says Perri.
