Boyz II Men: The Demise of Great Music

boyzIImen

Boyz II Men is a Grammy Award-winning all male group which started in 1986 and was formerly known as Unique Attraction.

Nathan Morris and Marc Nelson were colleagues who prearranged several R&B singing groups before did not really make it.

Eventually, the two were able to add to the group, Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman and Michael McCary.

Later on, the boy group’s name was transformed to Boyz II Men which was taken from a New Edition’s song during that time.

Marc Nelson left the assemblage due to temperament clashes and the original five members were compacted to four officially making them as a quartet group during their rose to fame.

What’s exceptional about Boyz II Men is that all four members are featured as lead singers instead of the usual R&B group wherein one or two are lead singers and the rest as backup vocals.

This prearrangement became their brand with Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman holding the tenor part, Nathan Morris for baritone while Michael McCary is on bass.

Boyz II Men’s record-breaking triumph came with the song End of the Road which stayed at the Billboard Hot 100 for thirteen weeks.

The group’s second album which was simply titled as “II” was released in 1994 and comprised of phenomenal hit songs such as On Bended Knee, I’ll Make Love to You, and Water Runs Dry, all of which reached the top of the U.S. Top 20.

The succeeding few years were not entirely fruitful, because some of the group members had health problems.
Wanya Morris had polyps detected on his vocal cords while Michael McCary suffered from scoliosis, the major reason why he retired in 2003.

The three remaining members created the MSM Music Group label after finished their contract with Arista.

The Boyz II Men released Throwback, Volume 1 which only made it to the 59th spot on the Billboard 200.

Boyz II Men has indeed personally influenced me and my singing and up to now I still sing their signature songs on special occasions.

Admittedly, they were an inventive and exceptional band during their prime, and at first, this phenomenal group set unrivalled records in the music business, but bands no longer last in current times as they once did, due to hastily varying music genres and styles.
