One of the unfortunate events for the entirety of fans of the British singer slash songwriter Sam Smith, is when their idol went out of commission for more than a month.
The “Stay With Me” singer cancelled a string of Australian tours and the scheduled Japan and Philippines concerts; as he needed to undergo a surgery to stop his recurrent vocal cord hemorrhage or bleeding.
It was on the news last 7th of May and his European and UK release of album “In The Lonely Hour” is set to have its first-year anniversary on the 26th of the same month. Fans are worried – and rightfully, so.
However, as the 26th of May came, the Grammy winning artist cannot be silenced and let the passing of this milestone go by without celebration.
As a treat to his ever supportive fans, Sam Smith invited them to stream the In The Lonely Hour online in a special page, #HappyBirthdayILTH, dedicated to the album’s first year anniversary.
As people from different parts of the world listen, a map, which illuminates bit by bit, appeared on this special site.
The illuminated map shows another surprise from Smith to his fans. It reveals an In The Lonely Hour competition in which the price will be some signed items from the artist.
The special moments doesn’t even end there. He also shared his favorite memories while in the journey of completing the album. Fans are delighted to know about his sentiment about his smash hit single “Stay With Me,” as he tweeted: “The day I wrote this song I reacted in a way I never react. I completely broke down in tears when listening back to the vocals in the chorus.”
He also shared about his love for the imperfection of his other single “I’ve Told You Now” in which he recorded while suffering tonsillitis. However, above all else is his tweet about his favorite track on the album “Leave Your Lover.”
“It’s so sweet & pretty sounding but the meaning is more heart wrenching than all the other songs.”
I couldn’t say I can’t agree more.
