Iggy Azalea is now known as the first female non-American rapper to be in Billboard Hot 100. This Australian white Barbarella can rap with the accent of a black girl from Atlanta.
Although Iggy has been a victim of reverse racism due to her being a white person daring to make black music, she has proven that she has the talent. She is the first female rapper in history to score her own No.1 single on the American pop charts.
Apart from that, her nomination for Grammy Awards, including best rap album, record of the year and the best new artist obviously shows her hip hop talent. Even the Multi-platinum selling and Grammy nominated rapper T.I defends her from the criticism and racist comments. “She is a white rapper, but she’s also a phenomenally talented and gifted performer,” T.I. said.
“Pretty Girls” new and at No. 30 of Billboard Hot 100 is the collaboration of Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears. The song continues the tradition of superstar women pairing up both in lead roles for Hot 100 hits.
Other female duets have risen all the way to No.1 is “No More Tears (Enough is Enough) by Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer in 1979 and “The Boy is Mine” in 1998, a collaboration of Brady and Monica.
Spears and Azalea perform the song “Pretty Girls” on the Billboard Music Award. The performance helped create a 374 percent weekly rise in streaming points resulting in 5.5 million U.S plays which earn the Greatest Streaming Award on the Hot 100. The song is now on the No. 16 spot on the Streaming Songs chart while No.30 on the Hot 100.
Azalea formerly a high profile model turned into female rapper can now say that modeling is not her only path. Despite her distinctly American issues, Hip-hop is her path and there will always be a market for her.
