Being Jazzy and Classy with Esperanza Spalding

The world of music as we know it is divided into a multitude of genres that people find beneficial since choices are all out in the open. Many people have succumbed to the idea of following the trend in mainstream music, while there are a chosen few who have moved astray from the conventional and became avid supporters of less familiar genres.

Genres such as indie pop, blues, grass and jazz are some of the few who have received a lesser share of the spotlight compared to pop or rock. Definitely a field to shine on, singer Esperanza Spalding established her career and used her vocal prowess to prosper in jazz music. So far, the strategy is working for the singer, and she’s continuously making a scene in her chosen genre.

Hailing from the musically-inclined city of Portland in Oregon, Esperanza Spalding is keeping the genre alive through her incessant attempts to craft as much music as she can. The 31-year old jazz supernova has made rounds to strengthen her fame inside the United States, and is slowly crawling out of her comfort zone to conquer the global jazz scene.

Aside from proliferating in jazz, Spalding is also a known purveyor of other lesser known genres such as jazz fusion, the relaxing bossa nova, neo soul and light touches of R&B. The very talented Esperanza Spalding has been around since 2000 when she ventured into making her passion to perform a reality and until now, she’s been effective in the work that she does.

Aside from her soothing voice and impressive vocal calisthenics, Esperanza Spalding is also applauded because of her dexterity in playing a wide array of musical instruments that aided her to channel a full musical experience to her followers. Her strengths in playing the bass guitar, double bass guitar, violin, grand piano and cello are considered an edge for her as per music analysts, and her jazz style is both reminiscent and fresh at the same time.

Throughout her entire career, Esperanza Spalding signed up with three of the most respected music firms in the United States, all of which gave her the right type of exposure to accentuate her best talents. This adored jazz singer has been handled by conglomerates such as Heads Up International, Hush Records and Merge Records.

Many can also remember Esperanza Spalding’s stints with famous artists such as the revered Patti Austin, Stanley Clarke and Joe Lovano.

In total, Spalding managed to release five studio albums, all of which skyrocketed in sales to keep the artist way ahead of her plans. The first album that established Spalding’s skills is Junjo, followed by a sophomore disc entitled Esperanza. Made available in the market in 2008, Esperanza capped the third spot at the US Jazz Charts that year, which is quite a feat for a rising artist.

In 2010 and 2012, Esperanza Spalding made it huge again by being prolific in releasing her third and fourth album, Chamber Music Society and Radio Music Society. Both of which soared to number 1 at the US Jazz Charts and gained tens of thousands in sales.

These albums also reached a wider audience in France and Canada, which then put Spalding in the limelight. Just recently, Esperanza Spalding offered her fifth studio album entitled Emily’s D + Evolution, which is currently climbing up the charts.
