Sam Smith’s Writing’s on the Wall out

Sam Smith

The anticipated song written by Sam Smith for the latest installment of the James Bond film Spectre is now out and the song climbed all its way to the top spot just days after its release. Thanks to the heightened anticipation and hype mostly from the social media and Smith’s flawless ability in composing tracks with soulful rhythm, this song is the first ever to top the charts among other Bond theme songs. Just when we thought Adele’s ‘Sky Fall’ is the best a Bond movie has to offer, the succeeding single was even better.

With sales of 70,000 and counting since the first week after its release, we can say that this new James Bond song has fueled the excitement for the upcoming movie that’s scheduled to be unveiled on November 6th in the United States.

It seems like the music industry’s gem didn’t expect such reception from listeners. “It was such an honor to be asked to write and record ‘Writing’s on the Wall’, and it’s incredible that it’s become the first Number 1 Bond theme song,” Smith mentioned during his interview with Official Charts. (Cited: http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/sam-smith-makes-history-with-first-ever-official-number-1-james-bond-theme-this-is-a-special-moment-i-ll-never-forget-__10891/).

The 23-year old singer was able to brush off Justin Bieber’s lead leaving his 13,000 sales in the dust. The stars of the English singer are very much aligned as it is not the first time he was able to reach the top spot for the Official Charts.

Not only does he capture audiences from his birth place but also international listeners. There is charm and sincerity in his lyrics and his voice conveys an appropriate message from the song he is singing. Let us emphasize that the versatility is there. Good heavens, the singer can reach high notes and can also work well with low keys.

Sam Smith treated fans with his own flavor of Ain’t no Mountain High Enough

The British crooner made the crowd dance with him by singing renditions like Amy Winehouse’s Tears Dry On Their Own and Aín’t No Mountain High enough.

Once again, Sam Smith proved how talented he is as a performer after his appearance from Chicago Festival. His number became a mini concert that made the crowd dance and jump to their feet.

Greeting the crowd with the question ‘Is anybody in the groove tonight?’ paved way to the party mood that made the fans scream with excitement.

The song was Smith’s dedication to Amy Winehouse, who passed away due to alcohol poisoning. This must be Smith’s way of showing respect to an equally talented artist who is by the way of the same roots.

After all, Winehouse was also another British musician who managed to penetrate and capture the taste of the international audience through her distinct sound and style.

Who can ever forget the thick winged eye Winehouse brought back when she first appeared right our very eyes?

Smith gave justice on covering a Winehouse’s song and actually made it his own without removing her vibe on the performance. This must be refreshing since we are accustomed with Smith singing us heartbreak songs and giving smooth, slow ballads.

Tears Dry on Their Own was then followed by the ever classic Ain’t No Mountain High Enough which is no doubt another spectacular number.

There was a part where the two songs mashed up that even made the crowd even crazier. It was no doubt one of those performances that is truly one for the books.

A song ‘Le Freak’ was also injected on the said song number by three backup singers that made it even more perfect.

Now, this is Sam being seen in a different light with his swaying and showing his own groove. Sam is talent personified. And it won’t be bad if we see him humming songs from different genre isn’t it?

Count your blessings and start with Sam Smith and Disclosure’s new single, “Omen”

Omen

The year 2015 is a year of “mix emotions” so to speak. We were put on a roller coaster ride with a lot of going- ons happening in the music industry. We see the sad departure of one member of our favorite boy band, and then add the bittersweet moment when another one of our long-time favorite band takes their one, last final bow on the stage recently last month.

Even though we say it is “just” music, tears are shed here and there with their most avid fans, who witness how each one of them grows along with the passing years. However, despite of these, smiles can easily replace the frowns when we know how to count the good news.

This 2015, most-awaited albums are, if not yet released, are set to hit the stores (e.g. Jason Isbell’s Something More Than Free, Beach House Depression, and we hope Adele’s 25). Apart from that, Ed Sheeran is currently single (yes, that should mentioned), Riri and Breezy is possibly up to another music team up and Sam Smith and Disclosure collaboration has a title already! Yes, the “Latch Boys” are back with the new track entitled “Omen.”

It has been three years since their first and last hit together on “Latch.” The track has been their stepping stone, then, as they receive recognition worldwide with its success. Despite of the requests, it is only now we get to finally hear about their “future” collaboration. Fortunately, we don’t have to call it “future,” as the track is on its way with the artwork and the title unveiled, which is “Omen.”

“Omen” was the boys second team up and was co-written by Jimmy Napes, who also co-write “Latch.” The track was lifted from Disclosure’s second album called Caracal, which is set to be released this September.

Will “Omen” propel the boys like the one in “Latch?” We’ll have to wait to find out.

One of the unfortunate events for the entirety of fans of the British singer slash songwriter Sam Smith, is when their idol went out of commission for more than a month.
The “Stay With Me” singer cancelled a string of Australian tours and the scheduled Japan and Philippines concerts; as he needed to undergo a surgery to stop his recurrent vocal cord hemorrhage or bleeding.
It was on the news last 7th of May and his European and UK release of album “In The Lonely Hour” is set to have its first-year anniversary on the 26th of the same month. Fans are worried – and rightfully, so.
However, as the 26th of May came, the Grammy winning artist cannot be silenced and let the passing of this milestone go by without celebration.
As a treat to his ever supportive fans, Sam Smith invited them to stream the In The Lonely Hour online in a special page, #HappyBirthdayILTH, dedicated to the album’s first year anniversary.
As people from different parts of the world listen, a map, which illuminates bit by bit, appeared on this special site.
The illuminated map shows another surprise from Smith to his fans. It reveals an In The Lonely Hour competition in which the price will be some signed items from the artist.
The special moments doesn’t even end there. He also shared his favorite memories while in the journey of completing the album. Fans are delighted to know about his sentiment about his smash hit single “Stay With Me,” as he tweeted: “The day I wrote this song I reacted in a way I never react. I completely broke down in tears when listening back to the vocals in the chorus.”
He also shared about his love for the imperfection of his other single “I’ve Told You Now” in which he recorded while suffering tonsillitis. However, above all else is his tweet about his favorite track on the album “Leave Your Lover.”
“It’s so sweet & pretty sounding but the meaning is more heart wrenching than all the other songs.”
I couldn’t say I can’t agree more.
