Jess Glynne flexing her vocals in inspiring single “Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself”

United Kingdom has bred a variety of extraordinary talents the last few years with the bulk of them was breaking through the charts last year and is currently making their way towards the worn path of mainstream music. It seems the UK has still a lot more to offer. The year 2015 opens up to new faces in hopes of making a name of their own.

UK’s new pride and joy, Jess Glynne are among those talents. She first had her name known as the featured vocals of Clean Bandit’s chart topper “Rather Be.” It served as her stepping stone into making a name of her own in the industry with her debut single released early this year fulfilling her dream. Yet it is with her third single of her debut album I Cry When I Laugh that sealed her place in the industry. “Hold My Hand” remained number one for three weeks on UK, peaking at different places on other international charts as well. And yes, Jess Glynne is hoping for another track the likes of “Hold My Hand Again” to get her to the top of the charts. That track came in the form of 4th single entitled “Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself.”

Jess Glynne applied again her winning formula in her 4th single. It has her vocals already flexing and impressing us of its power. It also has the upbeat tempo of the previous song that you can dance, too.

The chanting is not as apparent, however, and it also has less stomping. Yet there is still the familiar punch Jess delivers to get her listeners hooked. We can also admit that Jess deepen her vocals adding fierceness to her song, which is welcome.

The song talks about the pressure one put on his or herself until it overtakes who they are. Take a breath and “don’t be hard on yourself” is what the red-haired singer is telling us. The music video is equally inspiring featuring a black kid overcome of the worries he put on himself. It was only when he learned to loosen did the weight on his shoulder lifted up.

We are looking forward for more songs from Jess as we love hearing her soaring vocals. We just hope it includes a much needed diversity.

Yes Jess, we will do hold your hand

No one’s gonna see Jess Glynne fall on her new single, “Hold My Hand.”

Jessica Hannah Glynne or better known as Jess Glynne is a British singer-slash-songwriter famous for featuring in Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be” and Route 94’s“My Love.” However, after her first solo single “Right Here,” the songstress with the red hair is ready to hold up on her own, as her debut single scaled the top ten on international charts. Now she’s proving it again as she cemented yet another solo single, “Hold My Hand,” at the top of the charts for three weeks.

Jess’s “Hold My Hand” plays on dance/house genre with the edges straying to country music, but it is undeniable that this one’s another pop song. This track when weighed against her previous singles – collab or not – leans more on a buffed up pop song rather than let’s-go-dance tune of “Rather Be” and the likes. However, it doesn’t mean that you would be able to resist singing and swaying along – preferably with your hands up high – in this dazzling song.

The lyrics present a contrast in personality especially in the between the pre-chorus and chorus as she sings: “Break my bones but you won’t see me fall, oh/ The rising tide will rise against them all, oh.” Then on the chorus, she presents an opposite of what she’s saying – or singing – with the words: “Daring hold my hand/ Oh, won’t you hold my hand?/ ‘cause I don’t wanna walk on my own anymore.” It seems that Jess is all ready – for whatever it is – if they just hold her hand. (Don’t worry Jess, if they don’t we will do.)

The music video is basically a shot in the Californian desert during a sunset, while there are some riding dirt bikes and dancing. The meaning? Well just like most of the music videos, it’s a mystery.

“Hold My Hand” received commercial success debuting at no. 1 in UK singles Chart and scaling the US Billboard Hot Dance/ Electronic songs at 20th. Jess Glynne’s vocals is both honest and sire-like, so it is no wonder that after previous collaborations, she can make a name on her own.
