The engaging genre known as hip hop might seem all too crowded since there has been a plethora of artists within its territory. The jumpy, energetic beats and the idealistic lyrics have always been the key reasons why people have been addicted to this genre.
Booming in the 1990s, hip hop typically involves dance moves, catchy words and a merry aura which many have come to adore. Amid the danger of falling off a cliff due to the fact that the stage is already crowded with mainstream hip hop artists, a man named Jidenna transcended the fear of oblivion is slowly cementing his name as someone to look forward to.
Born Jidenna Theodore Mobisson, this skilled and passionate hip hop artist is like a tidal wave washing up all our conventional notions of how hip hop should be. Jidenna first came to love music when he was younger, residing in a small paradise called Tamai in Italy. When he first set foot in mainstream music in 2012, he seemed to be unstoppable and definitely worthy of being heard.
We can easily remember Jidenna as the artist behind one of 2015’s greatest hip hop tracks entitled ‘Gentleman’ and we can all deduce that the singer is up for more surprises. Now that Jidenna is tied-up with the esteemed Epic Records and Wonderland, it is definite that this musical prodigy will be exposed more, making him realize the dream.
A jack of all trades, the Nigerian-American recording artist is also a known composer, songwriter and small-time producer for singers who spawned from the bottom of the food chain. Jidenna was born from parents who are professionals, an accountant and an academician to be precise.
Jidenna’s family then moved to Milton, Massachusetts and this is where he first discovered his talent in singing and music. It was within the halls of Stanford University where he strengthened his affinity with songs, lyrics and beats by joining a rap group in high school.
Furthermore, Jidenna initially enrolled into sound engineering in college, but graduated with a degree in ritualistic arts, a very blatant move for a kid who wanted to stretch his creativity.
Jidenna has successfully collaborated with various artists like Roman Gian Arthur, Janelle Monae, Deep Cotton and St. Beauty. His first official project was with Monae when they glued their talents together to produce an extended play entitled ‘The Eephus’.
Jidenna’s major single ‘Classic Man’ made rounds in different American charts and easily caught fire when it debuted on the US Billboard’s Hip-Hop Airplay at the 49th spot. This single also made it big when it was nominated at the 58th Grammy Awards for Best Rap/Song Collaboration.
