Contrary to the name of the album where it is under, Lana Del Rey’s second single ‘Get High by the Beach’ is a perfect summer song that conveys the love of the beach and woman empowerment.
This is a song about one’s distinct knowledge of what she really wants and not caring at all with the crappy things brought by an unloving partner.
Fans came to know that Del Rey is up to her fourth album when she revealed it’s going to be named ‘Honeymoon’ way back last January. On one of her interviews, she even allowed some details slip saying “It’s very different from the last one and similar to the first two, ‘Born to Die’ and ‘Paradise’. It’s growing into something I really like. I’m kind of enjoying sinking into this more noirish feel for this one. It’s been good.”
There are sultry and air of breeze in this song of Del Rey. The song is perfect for out of the town long drives and even a night cap after a long tiring day. The sound itself is soothing. The alluring singer admitted that it was her personal account that influenced the lyrics of the song. “It started with the chorus. I was driving by the beach a lot. This was probably one of the last ones on the record…Even with the harmonies, it almost sounded monotone. But with the beat, it has this trap influence.” she confessed during her interview with DJ Zane Lowe.
Not for damsels in distress and definitely not a song from the heartbreak category, the lyrics suggest a woman who’s capable and fearless. Discern it from the lines ‘The truth is I never bought into your bullshit / When you would pay tribute to me / Cause I know that all I wanted to do is get high by the beach /Get high baby, baby, bye, bye. “
The single is a second from the unreleased album, which is expected to be available later part of this year.
